Ruby Beach is my favorite West Coast beach and, of course, low tide from late afternoon until sunset is my favorite time to be there.
A cloud bank often sits a couple of miles offshore during the summer and it frequently obscures the setting sun. Luck was with me on this visit. The low light, combined with the spray from the breaking waves, created a warm, soft silhouette of the distant sea stack.
I love how the solid sculptural forms of the sea stacks contrast with the shimmering flat sand. And you can see how the late afternoon sun gives the landscape a warm, magenta glow.
Sometimes I’m so entranced by the light that I almost forget to raise my camera.
